Residents on a Ruddington Estate are being reminded of numerous planned road closures and restrictions for autumn resurfacing works this week – with further highway works to follow all around our village.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, between 8.00am and 4.00pm from Monday 30th September 2019 to Friday 4th October 2019* the following streets are due be be closed:
- Packman Drive, for its entire length
- St Mary’s Crescent, for its entire length
- Lower Canaan, for its entire length
- Abingdon Drive, for its entire length
- St Johns Road, for its entire length
A “Temporary Prohibition of Driving, Waiting, Loading and Unloading” will be in force.
VIA East Midlands
– which is carrying out the work on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council – says resident access will be maintained, but motorists who usually use some of these estate roads as a cut-through will not be able to do so whilst work is in progress.

During the work, bus passengers should beware a diversion will also be required for Nottingham City Transport’s Green 10/10C service which will be unable to serve Ashworth Avenue, Packman Drive, St Mary’s Crescent and Easthorpe Street from 7.30am to 4.00pm each day…
- Towards Ruddington buses will stay on the A60 and turn right onto Kirk Lane and left High Street to the normal route.
- Towards the City buses will stay on Easthorpe Street, turning left onto the A60.
And that’s just the start of it! Looking ahead, the resurfacing of Ashworth Avenue itself is due to take place between 7.30am on Monday 28th October and 5.00pm on Friday 1st November. It will be “closed from its junction with the A60 Loughborough Road for a distance of 410 metres” – although contractors promise resident access will be maintained during this period. Whilst the road is closed to through traffic, however, two-way traffic signals will also be in use at the junction, between 9.00am and 3.00pm each day, and that will affect traffic along the A60, as well!
Elsewhere in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire County Council “Gully Cleansing” work on the A60 Loughborough Road and Mere Way is expected to cause delays from Sunday 6th to Friday 11th October, when stop/go boards will be in use. This work will then move on to High St, Kirk Lane, and Clifton Lane from Monday 14th to Friday 18th October between 9.00am and 3.30pm.
On Monday 7th October (only) THREE-WAY temporary traffic lights will be required on Mere Way from 9.30am to 3.30pm in order for a repair to the mobile telecoms mast to take place – described as “fitting a new shroud to the monopole”.
The resurfacing work on Barleylands (which was postponed recently due to adverse weather conditions) has now been rescheduled to between 8.00am and 6.00pm on Friday 11th October. During this time there will be a “Temporary Prohibition of Driving, Waiting, Loading and Unloading” along this route too.
Finally, planned Cadent Gas work on Clifton Road will mean 24-hour two-way traffic lights will be required from Tuesday 15th to Monday 21st October – manually controlled at peak times. The work will take place around 50 metres west of the Clifton Avenue junction where trenching will be dug to install a new gas connection to the existing main. Rush hour delays for motorists and for NCT’s Navy 3 bus are likely.
